Day 8: Singleton to Dungog
|
Well I was on the road at 7am and am riding with Britta and Claire to Dungog. At 7am it was already starting to get warm, so we were pleased we started out early.
For the first 40kms we rode through nice quiet roads going past farms. We stopped at Greysford for coffee and a bite to eat. The cafe had a lovely shady verandah. So we were there for almost an hour.
When we left it was just under 30kms to Dungog. Which isn't too bad, except for the hill that we had to climb. We had to climb for about 5kms. The climb wasn't too bad and the scenery was pretty good. When we got to the top we regrouped and had fun coming down the otherside of the hill into Dungog.
Dungog is a nice little town with a few shops and cafes. It is surrounded by farms and hills. We went to the tourist office to find the campsite. We were told it was $14 per night and were given the key to the shower block. The campsite is next to the bridge which goes over the river. Before we left the town we got some food to BBQ and also went to the cafe for lunch.
When we got to the campsite there was this young couple already camping here. They got the train from Newcastle and had been camping here for free for the last week. At least we know for next time to come straight to the river, as the showers are not very well kept and it is certainly not worth the $14 a night.
Tomorrow we are going different ways. I'm heading across to Myall Lakes and the others are heading down to Maitland. It's been fun having company for the last couple of days. Hopefully I'll be able to do a couple of walks in the national park during the weekend.
