Day 8: Parkes to Orange
|
It was nice and warm last night. When I woke this morning the tent was nice and dry on the outside. Usually I've had to pack the fly of the tent separately, so it was a nice change to pack it altogether.
After breakfast I rode over to The Dish, which is about 20kms out of town. I got there just after 9am. I found it to be quite impressive. They had a small display which was very informative. After I finished looking around, I had a coffee in the garden which looked out to the dish.
When I left I decided to follow a dirt road back. As it was about 10kms shorter than the route I took there. The dirt was very smooth and there were a lot of kangaroos hopping across the road. When I got near Parkes I followed the road to Orange.
The traffic was very light and there were a few rolling hills. I stopped at Manildra for lunch. Manildra is a small village and is approximately 40kms from Orange. After lunch I decided on riding on to Orange.
There were still a few more hills to climb to get to Orange. I got to Orange at about 5.30pm. Went to the caravan park, but they had no space. So instead I'm staying in a room at a pub in the CBD. Once I checked in I went across the road, as they had an all you can eat deal for $15. So I ate and ate.
Orange is a major city in NSW. It is a very leafy green city and is quite lively. Tomorrow will have a lazy morning looking around.
