Day 6: Jingelic to Khancoban
Distance travelled 67 km (42 miles) - Total so far: 567 km (352 miles)
After yesterdays long ride, I decided to have a sleep-in today. So was on the road just after 9am. Again the weather is just perfect, but that is meant to change during the weekend. Last night's camp spot was a really nice quiet spot. And the best thing is that it doesn't cost a cent to stay there.
As I was needing water and was hungry, I stopped at Walwa for breakfast. The store was really friendly and even offered to fill my water bottles. Once I had breakfast I was back on the road.
The road was undulating, similar to yesterday's ride. Just over a hour down the road I stopped at Tintalda for a milkshake. The little post office here is like a museum. With lots of history about the local area.
Carried on riding and left Victoria for the last time in this trip, now in NSW. The road to Khancoban has a couple of hills to get over, but nothing too major.
Arrived in Khancoban at about 1.30pm. This is my destination for the day. The camp spot is right next to the lake. After setting up camp and other stuff went for a walk to the town centre. In the main shop they have a small display of photos from the 50's and 60's. They show the construction of the Snowy Hydro Electric project, which was a major achievement for Australia. This town was used as one of the base's for the workers on the project.
Today the town is used as an entry point to Kosciusko National Park. One of the major parks in Australia. In the winter people come here to ski and in the summer for walks. As it is mid-week in Spring the town is very quiet.
This afternoon I'm relaxing in the rose garden. In the evening I'm planning on going to the local pub for one of their meals, as they are meant to be yummy. I'll let you know.
Tomorrow I'll be going through the National Park. Looking at my elevation profile there should be some nice climbing to keep me occupied.
