Well I was expecting it to be raining and windy this morning. I was pleased when I woke up that it was just windy. It was very grey though, so I packed away my stuff nice and quick just in case it decided to rain. Thankfully it stayed dry for my ride to Bicheno.
The only thing I had to deal with was riding into a headwind for most of the ride in Bicheno. Thankfully it wasn't as windy as I thought it would be. I got to Bicheno at about 10.30am.
On my way into town I stopped at the blowhole. With it being a little windy it was, on occasion, quite impressive. After my many attempts to get a photo of the blowhole, I headed into town for second breakfast.

I was originally going to go to the national park just north of Bicheno. But I decided against it, as I wanted to do a few more kms. This would mean I could have a shorter riding day tomorrow.
Well I certainly had to work for the extra kms today. I was fighting a head/cross wind for most of the ride in the afternoon. Do I hate headwinds. I think it is the gusts which really annoy me. As you think the wind is already bad and then it gets worse with each gust. At least I had a nice view of the coast for most of the ride.
In the end I decided to stop at Scamander caravan park just south of the town. It only opened last year, so the facilities are nice and new. Scamander is a small seaside town about 15kms south of St Helen's.
Today was a hard ride. Thankfully doing a lot of the kms today should give me a short riding day tomorrow and I can then enjoy the Bay of Fires. I think I'm going to eat out tonight. Yummmm.
