Day 5: Merriwa to Scone
|
Yet another sunny start to the day. Stopped at the local bakery for a bite to eat before I left. By the time I had breakfast I was on the road by 7.30am. I followed the road towards Scone. The road was again nice and quiet, with the occasional car overtaking me. For most of the ride this morning there was a bit of cloud cover. This kept it nice and cool.
Between Merriwa and Scone there are a series of very scenic rolling hills. Most were nice and gentle, but the last one took a little more effort. Once over it, the final few kms into Scone were downhill. I arrived at Scone just after 11am.
Scone is the horse capital of Australia. But walking down the main high street (which is also the New England Hwy) you'd think it was the truck capital. I'm camping at the caravan park just north of the town, like Scone I think it has seen better days.
This afternoon I'm just going to do my laundry, eat and do a little shopping. Also there is a public pool near my campsite, so may also go for a swim. Will hopefully get another early start tomorrow.
