Day 5 - Boyd River campsite to Jenolan Caves - 41kms
|
After chasing a couple of mice away from my tent last night I had a good sleep. This morning I left all my camping stuff at the campsite and headed down to Kangara Walls, which is 7kms away.
Didn't take long to get there. The views of the walls and across the numerous valleys was just a great way to start my morning. I even walked down the never ending steps to a really nice waterfall. The weather today is still just perfect. After I finished enjoying the views all to myself I headed back to camp and reloaded the bike.
The ride followed a well graded dirt road. as usual there was no other traffic in sight. There were a few hills to climb, but I'm pleased to say that I could ride up these ones!
By 11.30am I was at Jenolan Caves. I decided to stay here for the night in the hotel. Got a room all to myself for $60. Which of course meant I could have a nice hot shower, recharge all my electrics and relax in a big bed.
Once all clean I headed for a tour through River Cave. Before the tour began I had a walk around a small lake and almost trod on a snake! I was more concerned about snakes for the last 3 days as I was pretty much on my own, wasn't expecting to see one today on a 10 minute walk!
This tour lasted for about 2 hours and followed the river. For some reason I selected the tour with the most steps, 1298 it said in the brochure. I guess I must like going up and down hills, so why not steps! There were some spectacular formations and the tour group wasn't too big. Think I got some nice pictures on my main camera, but for now I'll share the ones taken with the phone. Once I finished the tour my legs were getting pretty tired. So I went back to my lovely room to relax before heading downstairs for dinner.
Once again today has been pretty good. I enjoyed a mixture of different views across the valleys, a waterfall and a cave tour. Tomorrow I'm heading to Lithgow to resupply on food and then down to Newnes where I might spend a couple of nights camping and exploring the old mining town.
