Day 40 - Cudlee Creek to Adelaide, The final day!!!
|
Yesterday afternoon I cooked the remainder of my pasta. I am now free of pasta. Yeahhhh! For dinner I went up to the tavern and enjoyed a nice pub meal.
This morning I woke up to birds chirping. I'm going to miss my morning alarm clock. Feels surreal for this trip to be drawing to a close. I've been on the road for over five weeks, which is certainly the longest trip to date. Kind of excited that it is the final day. I've had such a blast, done/seen so many wonderful things and met so many great people. Now is time to enjoy my ride into glorious Adelaide.
Weather when I set off was a little overcast, but otherwise nice. Followed the gorge road until I could find a good route to the river and join the cycle path into the city. The gorge road is such a scenic ride on a bike. I can imagine there would be lots of cyclists coming out this way each weekend.
About 15kms later I saw the bike path. The path follows the river all the way into Adelaide. Was great to be able to approach the city without seeing any cars. A couple of times I saw these buses on their own special track. Almost like a train, as the driver doesn't steer the vehicle, they go pretty fast. Interesting infrastructure. The rest of the ride was very quick and I was in the CBD by 9am.
Adelaide has a relatively small CBD compared to Sydney. So I had a walk through Rundle Mall. Whilst strolling through with the bike someone came over to say hi. Charles as been following my blog. I was so not expecting to be noticed once I got into town.
Once I worked out where I was I headed to the YHA. The YHA is certainly big, but the staff are friendly. Checked in and did a big load of laundry. I then went looking for a busy coffee place. Found a place called the Coffee Branch which was pretty busy. Can see why, yummy coffee.
Later I visited the South Australia Museum. They have a great section on aboriginal cultures in the area. Also another big plus was it was free. I then had a look next door at the art gallery.
In the afternoon I ate my way around Adelaide Central Markets. Full of tasty fruit, nuts, coffee and much, much more. After almost 6 weeks without a great selection of food I was certainly overwhelmed here. For the rest of the afternoon I had a look around the town. Certainly a nice city to walk around.
It was really good getting into Adelaide early this morning, as it gave me a bit of time to enjoy the city. I also really liked the route I took to get into town. As it is certainly a great way of riding in away from the traffic.
Tomorrow I get to meet lovely wifey (big thanks for letting me enjoy such a trip) at the airport in Adelaide. Then we get to spend a wonderful long weekend going around the Barossa and Clare Valleys. I was going to arrange a hire car, but there has been a slight change of plan (see picture below). I hope you approve :-)
Thanks to everyone who followed my trek across from Perth. Over the next few weeks I'll be updating this blog with some more pictures, maps of where I have been and reflecting on some of the things I really loved. TJ is going to have a well earned rest.
Just tricking re the car!!!
