Day 34 - Windy Port Lincoln
|
I was awoken this morning by the wind blowing outside. Looks like it was coming the way I was planning on heading. So I checked the forecast and yep the wind would be a headwind. And a pretty bad one at up to around 50kmph for most of the day. Tomorrow is meant to be a nice gentle breeze. So as I'm a couple of days ahead of schedule, I'm going to have a rest day here.
My tent was being pounded by the wind, so I needed to find somewhere a bit more sheltered. So I had a look around and walked a little way down the hill and located a nicer spot. Unpegged tent, removed some of the heavier stuff from inside and relocated in-between gusts. New spot is a lot more sheltered, I can hear the wind whistling above me.
Once I paid for another night I had a walk into town. I followed a coastal path, Parnkalla Trail, which provides nice views across the bay. When I got to town I had a look around some of the shops and then found a nice cafe. For the rest of the day I just enjoyed the sun.
Later on in the evening I met Wayne, who is a keen cyclist, who lives in town. He is looking at doing some touring and is currently getting his bike setup. So we spent a nice evening chatting. Before you knew it was passed my bedtime, so I had to make my way to my tent. Which was just across the road.
Pleased I was able to relax here today, as it is a pleasant town. Weather says that it should be a lot calmer tomorrow.
