Day 32 - Elliston to Coffin Bay NP (Little Yangie CG)
|
This morning was certainly very cool on the bike. But I was nice and warm with my layers of clothing. Once more I was going along quiet roads pass farms. First stop was at the Sheringa roadhouse. Had second breakfast here and was back on the road just after 10am.
Weather was still cool but very sunny. I then rode around Lake Hamilton, which is a big inland lake. On the shore of the lake is a restored old rest house which was used to feed travelers.
As I continued there were some bigger hills to enjoy. I then followed a good dirt road towards Coffin Bay. This saved me about 10-15kms on sealed road. So I arrived at Coffin Bay at about 3.30pm.
Coffin Bay is a renowned oyster growing region. So of course I got myself a dozen oysters to enjoy before I setup camp. They were all pretty damn tasty. I then set off for the national park, as there is some camping there.
Coffin Bay National Park is just a couple of kms from town, but the campsite is about another 15kms. When I entered the park I saw a number of emus running across the road. The park has a number of bays and beaches, along with lush vegetation.
I'm camping at Little Yangie campground. Which is on the edge of Yangie Bay. It is very popular, but there is plenty of space to find your own little spot amongst the trees. As it was getting late (about 5pm), I setup camp and started to make dinner.
Today has been a great day for riding. Great scenery, wonderful cool weather (even a tailwind) and of course tasty oysters to enjoy at the end. Tomorrow I'll have a walk around the park before heading towards Port Lincoln.
Cool, misty morning. Nice views though
