Day 30 - Perlubie Beach to Venus Bay
|
Last night we had a campfire on the beach. It was a great evening, as we were counting the shooting stars. I counted 5. This morning it was very misty. So whilst the mist lifted I enjoyed my breakfast on the beach.
Didn't get going until after 8am, as needed to clean my stove. As noticed that it was taking a while to cook anything. Hopefully should be working better this evening.
The first stop for the day was Streaky Bay. It is a picturesque little town, with a great view of the bay. Spent a little time looking around. As it was still early Sunday morning most of the shops were closed. So I continued on to my next destination.
About 40kms I took a short detour to Murphy's Haystacks. They're not actually haystacks but an outcrop of large boulders standing on top of a hill. These boulders have been formed by sand dunes which once covered them. They were exposed about 35,000 years ago.
When I finished looking at Murphy's Haystacks I rode on to Port Kenny. I was planning on stopping here to have some of my lunch. But the only picnic area I saw was on the main road with no views of the surrounding waters. So I continued to my final destination for the day, Venus Bay.
Venus Bay is about 15kms around the bay from Port Kenny. So it didn't take too long to get there. When I arrived I noticed the caravan park was right on the waters edge. So I decided I'd be staying there.
Once all setup I had a short walk to the lookout. The lookout is about a 10 minute walk from the caravan park. You get a great view of the cliffs along the coast. It was impressive seeing the ocean pounding against these cliffs. It was very clear that the cliffs are being eroded by this constant pounding.
After the lookout I walked back down to the campsite. Venus Bay is a small town which seems to be full of holiday rentals. Must get busy here in the high season. I can certainly see why, it is in a great location on the water with some stunning views. For the rest of the afternoon I just relaxed and enjoyed the great weather and stunning scenery.
