Day 3 - Bunbury to Dunsborough
|
The hostel was very busy last night. Got chatting to this guy from Warnambool in Victoria. He is currently going around Australia, on a motorbike. He left home 8 days ago and has already travelled 5000kms. He said he pretty much just rides from sunrise to sunset. What a trip.
One plus staying at the hostel is that I don't need to pack my camping stuff away. So I was able to leave just after 7am. About 3kms down the road I felt that I forgot something. So I pulled over and noticed I left my kitchen utensils behind. So I turned around and got my stuff. So in the end I left the hostel just after 7.30am. Still nice and early.
For the first few kms I followed the coast. Which was nice and scenic. I then rejoined the highway and headed for Busselton. Today it is very overcast, but not raining yet.
After about 25kms cycling along the highway, I took the turnoff for a scenic drive through Tuart Forest National Park. The road went for about 15kms and was a lot quieter than the main highway. About halfway through the park I stopped and had second breakfast. The rest stop was very tranquil. I then continued through to Busselton.
Busselton is a fair size town. Busselton's claim to fame is that it is home to the longest jetty in the southern hemisphere. I was going to stop here for the day, but as it was only 11am and I was getting a nice tailwind I continued to Dunsborough.
The ride to Dunsborough was a mixture of nice bike path and and riding along the main road which was a little lacking in a shoulder. But the drivers were all good. I arrived in the next town at around 12.30pm. I grabbed a bite to eat and booked a bed for the night at the YHA. As the campsites are a few kms out of town and I wanted to be quite central.
The hostel is located right on the coast. Looking at the weather for the rest of today I'm pleased I'm staying in doors. The nice weather should be back again tomorrow.
Today was certainly the most scenic of rides so far. Over the next few days as I head down through to Albany I will be going through vineyards, forests of very tall trees and some amazing coastline. Should be fun.
