Day 29 - Ceduna to Perlubie Beach
|
Well I certainly did a lot of relaxing yesterday. So my legs felt great again when I got on the bike this morning. Instead of taking the main road out of Ceduna, I opted for a dirt road. This road took me pass Decres and Laura Bays. At both these bays it was just me and a few kangaroos. Also the dirt road was devoid of any traffic, so a very peaceful start to the day.
After about 20kms I rejoined the main road heading south. The road was still quiet, just the odd caravan going passed. In another 20kms I took the turnoff for Smoky Bay.
Smoky Bay is a small seaside town which produces oysters. Unfortunately the oyster farms were closed. So my second breakfast was tuna sandwiches instead. At least I had a nice view of the bay and jetty.
Once second breakfast was eaten I was heading to Haslam. The main road was very quiet. I guess most of the traffic stays on the Eyre Highway instead.
I arrived at Haslam at about 12pm. Haslam used to be a deep sea port until the 1960's. It is now just a hamlet. I was going to camp here for the night, but the campground was more a RV carpark. So I pushed on to the next campsite, which is about 25kms north of Streaky Bay.
At about 2pm I saw the turnoff for Perlubie Beach. This is my second option for camping. I followed the road down to the beach and I could see a small bay. There were a couple of vans in the carpark, but I could camp on the beach. It looked very tranquil. So I put my tent behind an old building on the beach, to use as a windbreak.
Once I was all setup I had a walk along the beach and relaxed for the rest of the afternoon. I was pleased that I was able to do a couple of small detours down the coast. There seem to be a number of very nice, small bays. It was also nice not to be doing as many kms as I was doing over the past few days.
