Well I ended up having fish and chips down near the harbour last night. It was a very relaxing evening after.
This morning, as seems to be tradition on my final day of each tour, it is raining. It has rained for most of the night. Again I went down to the harbour for breakfast. Went to a place called Daci & Daci. They're a bakery in Hobart. They certainly make some yummy food. Once I fed myself I walked back to the hostel and got ready for a ride around town.
Whilst getting ready it decided to rain again. So I relaxed a little longer in the hostel whilst the showers passed over. The hostel is an old rambling type building, but is comfortable to just hang out for a while.
At about 11am the rain eased, so I rode out to Battery Point and through Salamanca. Of course it started raining again. But had my waterproofs, so stayed nice and dry. I then headed across the main bridge in Hobart heading towards the airport. The shared path lanes are very narrow and it is also a long way down when you get to the top.
As I was a little early I decided to have a look around the foreshore area before heading to the airport. There is a nice little marina on this side with great views back across the Derwent River to Hobart. A few kms later I got to this park and sheltered from the rain for a while.
When the showers passed I turned around and cycled the other way to Bellerive. Whilst heading to Bellerive the sun actually came out. So I stopped at the waterfront for a small lunch before heading out to the airport.
Instead of following the main highway to the airport, I followed Cambridge Road instead. This route has a couple of small hills, but the traffic is far lighter than the highway.
I arrived at the airport at 1pm. As my flight wasn't till 7.30pm, I confirmed I could get a bike box okay. Once that was confirmed I went for a ride down to Sorell. As Sorell is only about 8km from the airport.
The ride to Sorell is nice along a couple of causeways. The town itself is nothing special. But it is certainly nicer than sitting at an empty airport for 5 hours. At about 3.30pm I headed back to the airport.
Once I got to the airport, I collected a bike box and began the packing process. Always my least favourite part of my trip. Jetstar didn't have any boxes left, but Virgin were great getting me a box. Even though I'm not flying with them. Whilst putting the bike in the box a couple of different people came over and said they had seen me around TAS. I have met so many nice, warm people on this trip.
Once I was able to check my luggage in, I could get changed out of my cycling clothes and relax. And guess what it is nice and sunny outside now. The weather had certainly been very changeable today. By all accounts Sydney has had a bit of rain over the last few days.
So that's it, another great tour over. So many wonderful experiences along the way. Over the next few days I'll update this journal with some additional photos, maps and of course the all important elevations. Now I'm going to relax before getting on the plane in 90 minutes.
