Day 22 - Cocklebiddy to Rest Area 30km east of Madura
|
Last night I went up to the roadhouse for dinner. Had chicken and vegies and I think they gave me a whole chicken. It was huge and very yummy. Just what I wanted after the last few days riding. Cocklebiddy is a very friendly and helpful roadhouse. There is such a difference between the roadhouses in regards to their hospitality.
This morning I awoke to a nice sunrise. Looks like the cloud from the last few days has gone. I was packed and riding just after 6.30am.
After a few kms I noticed the nice tailwind I have had over the last few days has been replaced by a slight headwind. So I'm having to work a bit more today.
The road today certainly had a lot more turns in it than the last couple of days. There were certainly a few more trees as well. Even though they were a bit on the small side still.
About 2kms before I got to the Madura roadhouse, I stopped at the Madura Pass lookout. This lookout gave me a great idea of how flat the plain is below. It was quite an impressive view. I then continued downhill to the roadhouse for lunch.
The roadhouse is in a nice spot, about 2/3rds the way down the hill. I had my usual for lunch, burger with the lot. Looks like the person making the burger is a little artistic!
I then continued for another 30kms to my campsite for the night. The scenery along the road down on the Roe Plains is very different. The trees and vegetation was a lot more varied. Millions of years ago this area used to be under the sea, then it was pushed up, so it is extremely flat.
The wind picked up a bit more,so I was pleased to see the turn off for the rest area. It is a very big area, with a few RVs. But I was able to find a secluded spot a few metres into the wood.
Today was the first day I have had an headwind to deal with going across the Nullabour. It certainly made the riding a bit harder. But I'm happy with the number of kms I was still able to do and I got to stay at a really nice campground at the end of the day.
