Day 2: Warburton to Alexandra
Distance travelled 85 km (53 miles) - Total so far: 152 km (94 miles)
Was woken up by the ducks quacking this morning at 6am. Pleased to say there was no rain. Was all packed up and on the road by 7.30am.
The first 10kms was riding uphill via Donna Buang Road. Not a single car in sight riding through the forest. A great way to start the morning. Stopped at a junction to enjoy the peacefulness of it all. Got chatting to a park ranger who said the ride is now mostly downhill. Gotta love them hills, as they are usually followed by a downhill.
As I was coming down the hill the scenery started to change. A couple of years ago a vast area of Victoria was affected by the worst bushfires in it's history. It was interesting going through this area, as it was amazing how it recovers.
Stopped at Marysville for the first food stop of the day. This small town was devastated by the same bushfires. They are currently in the process of rebuilding.
After leaving Marysville I headed towards Alexandra, which is just over 40kms away. Road was mostly flat, with the odd rolling hill. Also had a nice tail wind, so got into town pretty quick. Decided to stop here for the day and have a relaxing Sunday afternoon. Alexandra is a typical Aussie country town on a Sunday. Mostly closed! Have found a nice cafe with a lovely courtyard to relax in.
Weather today has just been perfect. Should be the same tomorrow.
