Day 19 - Norseman to Fraser Range Sheep Station
|
Yesterday evening I got TJ all ready for her trek. She has certainly put on a bit of weight. But I'm pleased to say she'll be going on a diet crossing the Nullarbor and should be back to her usual self at Ceduna. The extra weight I'm carrying is of course food for two weeks and an extra 8 litres of water.
This morning I was able to leave just after 7am. My destination for the day will be Fraser Range Station. Which is about 100kms away. TJ certainly felt a little heavier than usual to ride. But once she was moving it was all good.
As I was heading east, I was getting a nice tailwind for my ride. So that was really nice as well. After a couple of kms I was back in the bush and came to a sign telling me it is about 1900kms to Adelaide. So I guess I'm almost halfway there!
The ride was pretty uneventful, except that I noticed my fuel bottle has leaked. So I don't have much fuel left for my stove. Hopefully I can get some at one of he roadhouses on the way. Need to remember for next time that the fuel cap is done up tight.
With the really nice tailwind I got to Fraser Range Station at about 12pm. There is a little dirt road (about 2kms) which leads up to the site. I then checked in.
They have moved the sheep off the land, as they caused a lot of damage and also were being taken by dingos. They have also developed a well maintained caravan/camper site. Has a well stocked kitchen and clean showers.
Once I had had lunch I went for a walk around the station. It is surrounded by rolling hills. There was also an emu with some chicks. So plenty of wildlife to spot. The owners have done a nice job in restoring the old buildings and have got a display of old farm machinery and cars around the property.
Today's ride was quite easy overall. Hopefully i will continue to have favourable winds pushing me along. Tomorrow I'll need to try and get some gas for my stove. Can't believe I didn't bring a spare bottle!
TJ is certainly fully loaded |
