Day 17 - Grass Patch to Norseman
|
This morning I was awoken by roosters making a lot of noise. It must had been about 4.30am. I thought they started at sunrise, which is at 6am.
Thanks to my avian neighbours I was able to leave at just after 7am. It is going to be a very sunny day. After about 30kms I stopped at Salmon Gums for second breakfast. This is the last roadhouse until I get to Norseman, which is another 97kms away. So I topped up my water and had a quick bite to eat and drink.
After stopping at Salmon Gums I continued my way to Norseman. I was still getting a headwind, but it was certainly not as bad as yesterday.
I noticed the scenery was starting to change. The farms which I had become used to seeing gave way to bushland. The trees were noticeable smaller than what I am used to seeing and also the climate felt drier. I also started to pass small dried up salt lakes.
About 50kms before Norseman I stopped at a rest area for lunch. Which consisted of tin tuna, happy cow cheese, yummy bread and a banana. I was pleased to find a little shade, as today is the warmest it has been since I started this tour.
After lunch the ride continued to Norseman. It is really nice that a lot of the drivers (and passengers) are starting to wave or toot their horns (in a friendly manner) at me. Seems to be occurring the more remote I am becoming.
The last 10kms to Norseman the wind picked up, so I had to battle through the headwind. Wasn't too bad though, as I started counting down the kms. I got to Norseman at about 3.30pm.
Norseman is named after the horse which found gold on the site of the town back in 1896. The town is my last in WA and I'll be spending a couple of days here. I have checked myself into the Railway Hotel. Which is an old art deco building. It certainly has a lot of character.
Tomorrow is going be preparation day. I'll need to ensue that I restock my supplies to last at least 10 days (currently doing a shopping list). Also I'm going to rest and feed myself so that I am all ready. And of course will be giving TJ some TLC, as she has be riden a long way and not caused me any trouble.
