Day 14 - Resting in Esperance
|
Esperance is such a friendly place. Last night at dinner I was chatting to the cook, as she was finishing up she offered me a lift back to the hostel. Which was about 3kms away. I thought it was just this one person being nice, but talking to someone else at the hostel, who arrived by bus this morning. She said she met an old man on the bus and he drove her around town showing her the sights. They even went to Cape Le Grande NP, which is about 60kms away.
Yesterday I met my first touring cyclist, Mike, for this trip. He had started in Melbourne and was heading up to Perth. So we were exchanging tips on what to expect, as we are going opposite directions.
This morning I was feeling a little tired. So I have decided to have an extra day in Esperance. Will just relax and plan my next leg of my journey. Also the hostel is really comfortable to just hang around and enjoy the view of the ocean. I still got to enjoy sunrise from our balcony though.
After breakfast, I had a walk into town and found a nice place to sit near the beach and watched a ship being loaded with grain. As a lot of the crops grown in the region is trucked to Esperance to be sent elsewhere by ship. I then just got a couple of things from the shops and continued to relax.
In the afternoon I had a walk to the jetty and met Sammy the Seal. Sammy hangs at the beach every afternoon waiting for the fisherman to throw her some fish. On the way back to the hostel I got to watch moonrise over the bay. A nice end to the day.
Tomorrow I'm riding out to Cape Le Grande NP and camping overnight. It is meant to be really scenic. So am looking forward to the trip out.

Esperance is also a major port in the region |
