Mittagong to Dungog

Day 14 - Gloucester to Dungog - 70kms - Total 809kms

Well today is the last day of the current tour. Woke up to another blue sky day. Weather has been almost perfect for this trip, just a little warm for the last couple of days.

Pre-sunrise view from my tent in Gloucester
I followed the Buckets Way until I saw the turnoff for Dungog. The road was very smooth and there was little traffic, also I had a little tailwind pushing me along. So the kms were going by very quickly. By about 10am I was at the turnoff for Dungog.

The road climbed for a couple of kms and then I had a nice descent through rolling hills. By 11.30am I was at Dungog. It had just started to get warm again. So I was happy I got to my destination nice and early.

Views along the way to Dungog today
I have camped before at Dungog. The campground is squeezed between the river, road and rail line. It's a nice spot to camp. If you want to use the facilities you need to come up to town and go to the visitor information centre. Think it cost about $7 per person a couple of years ago.

As my train doesn't leave till about 3pm, I had a bit of time to get some lunch and have a look around town. There's a nice cafe, Chill Billies, which make very yummy fresh food.

After the cafe I went next door to the bakery and had a tasty apple pie and shake,
The train left just after 3pm and it was nice to seat back and enjoy the view. I had to change trains at Hamilton to get a connecting service to Sydney. All up the train journey takes about 4 hours to travel about 200kms. Not exactly an express service. I was back in Sydney just after 7pm and was able to surprise my lovely wifey, as she wasn't expecting me home until tomorrow.

As usual, over the next few days I'll add the GPS data, more photos and my final thoughts on the tour to this blog.
