Melbourne to Sydney

Day 13: Bundanoon to Shellharbour
Distance travelled 88 km (55 miles) - Total so far: 1,095 km (680 miles)

Had a nice sleep in this morning. Left the hostel just after 9am. It had been raining lightly since first thing this morning. So I had all my waterproofs on to keep me nice and dry. About 15kms later the rain changed to a fog/mist.
Misty views I had for most of the day
A little while later I stopped at Fitzroy Falls. Went to the lookout and could barely see the waterfalls, because of the fog. On a clear day you can see over 100kms away, today you could see 100 metres.

Afterwards I rode another 10kms and heard a ping come from the back wheel. Pulled over and noticed one of the rear spokes had broken. On the touring bike I always carry a couple of spares. After 30 minutes I was back on the road. Hopefully that will be the only problem for this trip.

A little further I stopped at Robertson for lunch at the famous pie shop. Thankfully I wasn't 10 minutes later, as 2 full minibuses of grannies pulled in and the queue was out the door. Robertson also as one other landmark, the giant potato. No idea why.

Robertson's major landmark!
My lunchtime stop at Robertson's Pie Shop
After lunch I rode down Jamberoo Mountain Road. What a seriously steep descent. I went from 600 metres above sea level to 50 metres in 5kms. It was a shame the road was really wet, as it meant I was using a lot more brake than I would had liked.

At the bottom it was really raining. Rode mostly back roads to Shellharbour. Have set up the tent for the last time on this trip at the caravan park here.

Shellharbour is about 20kms south of Wollongong. It is a holiday place next to the beach and a small habour. On the main street there are 4 fish and chip shops next door to each other. All empty, most likely because it has been raining for most of the day.

Tomorrow is the last day of this tour. If it stops raining I'll be riding the coast road through Royal National Park and then getting the ferry from Bundenna to Cronulla. If the rain is still pretty bad will jump on the train at Wollongong instead. Let's hope it's nice.
