Day 13 - Munglinup RH to Esperance
|
Last night a few more grey nomads plus a big truck carrying a big piece of farm equipment joined me at the campsite. So it got quite busy.
This morning I was awoken to someone using a chainsaw at 6am. Meant I got to leave nice and early again. The sun was out so was a good start to the ride. I continued to ride passed fields of canola. It's so yellow. The ride was uneventful until I was hit, by a magpie. It got me a number of times on the helmet. Maybe that is why helmets are compulsory in Australia.
After that excitement, I continued on my way. About 10kms before Esperance I took the turnoff for Pink Lake. As this would bring me along the coast instead of coming through town. It would add about an extra 10kms to the ride.
So pleased I chose the alternative route. As when I got to the coast, the views were just amazing. The water was so, so blue. Plus there was a cycle path which went along side the coast. Which meant I could enjoy the views without having to worry about what was behind me.
After I had taken numerous photos I went to look for somewhere to stay. As usual the campsite wanted to charge me more than the hostel. So tonight I'm staying at the YHA which is just across the road from the coast. Once again I have a room to myself, must be because I hadn't showered for 3 days!
I've been pretty impressed in the number of kms I have been able to do since I left Albany. It has given me a bit of practice on what I'll need to do when I begin my trek from Norseman. Which if all goes to plan should commence next Monday or Tuesday. Tonight I'm relaxing and going to eat out. Hopefully I'll find somewhere which doesn't do pasta, as that is pretty much what I've been eating for the last few days.
