Day 11: Deloraine to Gowrie Park

Woke up to morning drizzle. It is meant to clear a little later on this morning, so am relaxing at the campground for a little while.
The rain did finally stop and I left the campsite at about 9.15am. The weather certainly was a lot cooler than the last few days. I rode to Mole Creek for coffee. Mole Creek is a tiny town and nearby are the Mole Creek caves. After I had my coffee I headed towards Sheffield for lunch.
The weather started to warm up a little which was nice. The scenery up to Sheffield was very scenic. But the climb over the Gog Range was just silly steep. But I did seem to enjoy it. Especially when I got to the summit and enjoyed the fast descent down the other side.
After the Gog Range climb, I had just one more steep climb up to Paradise. Paradise is a small collection of farms with some amazing views across the valley to some great hills and cliffs. I then turned up towards Sheffield for lunch.
Sheffield is a typical country town. It is unique in one way. A lot of the walls around town are painted with these amazing murals. So it has put an otherwise average type town on the tourist route. After lunch I headed back down the road I just came up and continued onto my destination for today, Gowrie Park.
Didn't take too long to arrive at Gowrie Park. I decided to camp next to the river. Seems like a nice spot to spend the night. There is a paid campsite just up the road, but it didn't look that appealing. Gowrie Park was a town used for the construction of part of the TAS hydroelectric scheme. At its peak there were approx 2000 people living and working here. Now there are maybe 20 people.
The scenery around the campsite is really great. With the small stream and towering mountains as a backdrop. I'll most likely go for a short walk later to have a look around. Tomorrow I have a short ride of about 40kms to Cradle Mountain. Most of the riding will be in the upward direction. Really looking forward to the ride tomorrow.
