Day 10 - Rylstone to Sandy Hollow - 115kms
|
I was pleased I had an early finish yesterday, as just after 2pm a big storm rolled over. It absolutely poured. Big plus though it gave the bike a good clean, as she was starting to look a bit dirty. Now she is shiny clean.
This morning the weather is nice again with a gentle breeze. After breakfast I was riding at about 8am. I followed the road along the Bylong Valley. It had some pretty nice and fast descents before leveling out in the valley. I was passing farm after farm until I got to Bylong.
I got to Bylong at about 10.30am, which was pretty quick thanks to the nice descents. When I arrived I noticed the campsite was packed, because of the annual event, the Bylong Mouse Races.
The races are in their 25th year and it would seem that every local has turned up for the event. It was packed. It was hysterical watching the mice racing each other. It is all for a good cause, as they raise a lot of money for local charities in the area. Also it's a good excuse for the locals to get together. After I had watched a couple of races I grabbed a bite to eat and was riding again at about 12pm.
I had about another 60kms to go until I got to my destination. The road remained relatively flat, except for a couple of small hills. The farms gave way to a national park and I stopped at Honeysuckle Creek for a short break. After it was a quick 40kms to Sandy Hollow.
Sandy Hollow is a small town on the main highway. The campsite has good facilities and a nice pool for me to cool down in, which was good as it was quite humid today. After I setup camp I got a refreshing ice coffee and cake from the local cafe. Very yummy. Today's ride went by very quickly and it was fun going to the annual mouse race along the way.
