Day 1 - Mittagong to Mittagong! - 25kms
|
Had a very early start, as I wanted to catch the 5.30am train to Mittagong. I hadn't ridden a loaded touring bike since I finished my last trip 6 months ago. So it felt a little funny at first, but after a few kms it was all good.
The train journey to Mittagong was uneventful and I got there at about 8am. Before I left Sydney I bought a bit of food for the next few days. This meant I didn't need to stop in Mittagong for anything and could now begin my tour.
It was a nice misty morning and once I left Mittagong the traffic was a lot quiter heading towards the cave. There were nice views across farms and vineyards. I was enjoying the sceney when I heard a ding from my front wheel. I pulled over and noticed I had a broken spoke. So I got my spare spokes out and was going to change it over when I noticed I didn't have one the right length! I do have a temporary cable I could use, but as I was only at the start of the tour didn't feel comfortable using it for 2 weeks. As I was only 15kms from Mittagong I turned around and headed back for town.
It started to pour with rain and when I got to Mittagong I couldn't find a bike shop. So I have decided to head home today. I can then change over the front wheel and hopefully restart the tour tomorrow. Making sure I have the correct length spare spokes.
