2 weeks to go....and the bike is at the mechanics!!
Well this morning I got the bike all set for the trip to the markets for her final shakedown prior to being boxed up next week ready for the flight to Melbourne. I had just rolled out of the garage and noticed the front derailleur was not shifting. So turned around and put the bike on the workstand and noticed that the derailleur had way too much movement. Checked the gear cable and all was good. Looked a little closer at the derailleur and noticed the spring had no tension. A quick look on google confirmed I needed a new derailleur. Had no spares in the garage, so took the bike to my local bike mechanic. He advised that he will need to order the part from Shimano and should hopefully have it all good for this weekend. Which will give me a chance for any fine tuning that may be needed.
So have left the bike there for them to fix the derailleur and have ordered a spare from another source which I should have by early next week. Just in case the mechanic has any problems getting the part I will be able to fix it myself prior to the trip. I'm pleased I've been doing a few test rides the last couple of weeks to see if there were any issues with the equipment. Better to get this fixed than being stuck on the side of the road working out how to get to the nearest bike shop.
