Day 35 - Port Lincoln to Cowell
|
What a difference a day makes. This morning when I woke up my tent was still. It was nice and calm outside. So I packed everything away and got an early start, about 10 minutes after sunrise.
After about 15 minutes of riding I was out of Port Lincoln and cycling passed farms along the east coast. My first stop for the day was Tumby Bay, about 50kms away.
Tumby Bay is a small town on the coast, a couple of kms off the highway. It has a very nice white sand beach. I stopped here to sample some of the yummy foods at the local bakery. Once fed, I was back on the highway at about 10am.
The highway on the eastern side certainly has a bit more traffic than on the western side. But overall the drivers were generally pretty good and sometimes there was a shoulder for me ride in. The weather was still nice, with a very slight headwind.
At about 2pm I took the turnoff for Arnos Bay. It is a small town, with a beach and jetty. I was going to stay here the night, but as it was still early and the wind wasn't too bad I continued on to Cowell. The last 45kms to Cowell was pretty uneventful. The wind stopped at about 4pm, which was great. I got to Cowell just after 5pm.
Cowell seems to have quite a few old buildings on the main street. Which gave a really nice first impression when I rode in. I went to the campsite in town. It is central, but overcharges for what you get. So at the moment this maybe a contender for worse campsite so far.
Great thing about doing some extra kms today is that I only have to go about 15km and catch a ferry across the Spencer Gulf tomorrow. The ferry leaves at 12pm, so I can relax and have a look around the town before I leave.
